Tip: If you have a yahoo email address you can go to greetings.yahoo.com and send greeting cards from your email address book.
Why is Firefox so slow or it freezes?
Firefox takes up a large amount of computer memory.
In class we compared Firefox to Internet Explorer opening 3 of the same website tabs at the same time, and Firefox allocated 95mb while Internet Explorer used only 56mb.
What happened? I believe that over time…popularity of Firefox has demanded more bells and whistles thus increasing the need for more memory to run the program
What does this mean…do I need to switch? No, but if you do have problems you can try using one or the other.
Tip: There is a new browser that seems to work better and faster (for now). Safari, Apple computers web browser is available for download on to a Microsoft computer. www.apple.com/safari
What else might I want to do to try to improve the performance of my web browser?
You can clear the cookies and the cache/temporary internet files.
***this will reset any website that keeps login information about you in your computer. Yahoo email, amazon, Netflix, etc.
Internet Explorer
1. click tools
2. choose delete browsing history
3. a window appear choose delete cookies & then delete temporary files
Firefox
1. click tools
2. choose clear private data
3. check cookies and cache (remove other check marks)
4. click ok
Hint: to clear the browsing history, the saving of past website address that appear in the address bar whenever you type in a website address. Follow the above steps but choose clear/delete history instead.
Memory Explanation
To view the memory used in your computer, hold ctrl+alt+delete and open the task manager. Click the process tab, then click the mem usage bar above to organize all the programs listed in order by the amount of memory it uses. If you see any programs that seem to use more than 30000k or 30mb write down the name and search the internet for more information about the file or bring it to the next class.
