Notes for 4-15-14

Heartbleed Bug - over 500,000 websites were vulnerable to getting their users' details and information compromised. Some websites compromised www.yahoo.com, www.netflix.com, www.officedepot.com

What to do?
Change your password on websites that were vulnerable to the Heartbleed Bug ONCE they notify you that they have fixed the vulnerability.

How can I check if a website is vulnerable to the Heartbleed Bug?

What can I do to protect myself in the future?
Create different passwords for each website by developing a simple rule for passwords.
i.e. my password is Abcde$2345 (note the capital letter, punctuation, and 10-digit minimum) - then add the name of the website the password is related to Abcde$2345amazon, Abcde$2345yahoo, Abcde$2345netflix

Reduce the paper clutter
Scan your documents into the computer and shred your paper.
Recommended scanner Fujitsu ScanSnap ix5000 - straight though paper feed, fast double sided scanning, can detect document orientation and size.
~$450 on Amazon
