New Year's Checklist

Antivirus or AntiMalware
Microsoft Security Essentials – Windows 7
Windows Defender – Windows 8 & 10
Sophos Home (Actively Protects your Computer) - https://home.sophos.com/
1. Create an account
2. Confirm your identity by going to your email and accepting the confirmation
3. Go back to sophos and login
4. Click Add Computer / Install
5. Click on the downloaded file or choose Run/Open
6. Follow the Instructions

Malware Bytes (Free to check for Malware, Paid to actively scan)
Run this at least once a month

Backup System – Save a copy of your files just in case your Hard Drive fails or you get a virus
*Online Backup (Paid) - Automatic
Mozy, Carbonite, Backblaze
*Cloud Storage (Free to a limit then paid) – Needs Setup or to be done manually
Dropbox, Box, pCloud
*Online Document Creation, Storage - Documents created online
Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Apple iCloud
*External Hard Drive – Be sure the drive includes backup software!
Physical Drive Connected to the Computer via USB
*External Flash Drive – Smaller storage but portable

LifeLock – Prevent Identity Theft (Do your own research regarding the service)

My emails have been hacked! What do I do? Notify all your contacts, friends and family to ignore the recent email and NOT send you money or respond to the email. This includes someone to send the message on your behalf.  Or create/use a secondary email to send a notification email to your friends/family group or distribution list NOT to send you money or respond to the email. (Be sure to put all the contacts in the BCC and send to groups of no mare than 50 contacts at a time) 1. Contact a Computer Tech to help cleanup and verify your email settings are properly configured, change your password and setup 2 factor authentication 2.
