Using the iPad for Communication
Purpose and Apps
Email - iOS Mail, Gmail/inbox, yahoo
Contacts
Phone - iPhone app, voip services
Chatting/texting - SMS/mms on iPhone, messaging on iPads, Facebook messenger, wechat, 
Video chatting - FaceTime, skype, google hangouts

Email - turn mail on or off
  1. Settings
  2. Mail
  3. Accounts
  4. Tap the account
  5. Tap the switch, green on = active, off = inactive

Why aren't all my settings for the account green?
You only need one contacts, calendar, notes active.
Typically iCloud has active contacts, calendar, notes, etc.
Email your gmail or yahoo, etc
If everything is working fine don't make any changes!

Try a new email app to manage your inbox
Spark can be downloaded from the App Store
  1. Open the App Store
  2. Tap search on the bottom or the search box on the top
  3. Type in Spark
  4. Tap search
  5. Push get then install
  6. Enter your password or put your finger on the home button if you have Touch ID active
  7. Tap open when it's done
  8. Complete the steps spark asks of you to setup the new email application

Update your contacts app and use it as a central system to communicate with others
  1. Open contacts
  2. Tap the + to create a new contact or edit to make a change
  3. Type the contact information accurately in each of the designated fields
  4. Be sure to choose home/work for landlines and mobile for cellular phones
  5. If you'd like you may choose a specific ringtone for a contact to screen/filter your calls
  6. Tap done when finished
  7. Notice now you can choose any of the many options to connect with the contact

Move contacts to the main bottom strip
  1. Hold down on contacts till it wiggles
  2. Drag the app to the bottom bar
  3. Push the home button to stop the wiggling
