Macintosh Notes 8/22/17

My Computer is acting strange, what's wrong?

If you think you have a virus, download a FREE antivirus software

1.Go to Google, Type in "Sophos antivirus Mac"
2.Remember the first 2 results are ADS
3.Also look at the website address/URL in green to confirm the source
4.Click Get Started
5.Register with Sophos and create a password (write it down)
6.Look in your email inbox for a verification email and the link to download the software
7.Then double click on the software to install it
8.The Sophos Icon appears on the top right bar beside the clock
9.Click the icon to open the software and run a manual scan

If you feel your computer's performance has degraded since Sophos was installed, remove it.
1.Click Spotlight (magnifying glass top right corner) type in sophos
2.Click Remove Sophos

If you use Firefox Update to the newest version!
2.Click Download
3.Open the downloaded file (dmg)
4.The window opens with the firefox icon and a folder labeled applications
5.Drag the firefox icon on top of the applications folder to install it
6.Click Replace to any warning that might appear asking if you want to replace the old version
7.Wait for the copy to complete
8.Done

Once your are done you can eject the firefox icon that appears on the desktop and delete the downloaded file from the desktop or downloads

Remember to Cleanup your Downloads folder
1.Click on the Finder (located on the left of the dock, two faces)
2.Click the Go menu
3.Choose Downloads

Select all the files
1.Click the Edit Menu
2.Choose Select All

Move the files to the Trash
1.Click the File Menu
2.Choose Move to Trash

If your trash if full…Empty it
1.Click the Finder Menu
2.Choose Empty Trash

Remove an application for the computer
Use an utility to remove the application and other associated files scattered in throughout your computer
Install the Utility
1.Download App Cleaner, http://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/
2.Move the downloaded file to the applications folder
Using App Cleaner
1.Open app cleaner, click open if a security notice appears
2.Drag the application you want to remove into the App Cleaner window
3.App Cleaner will look for files connected to the application
4.Check off the files to remove
5.Click Remove
