Understanding Accounts and Services Related to Them

What type of email do you use?

  • Gmail = Google

  • Yahoo

  • AOL

  • iCloud, Me, Mac = Apple

  • Hotmail, Outlook, Live, MSN = Microsoft

  • Comcast, Sonic, Sbcglobal, Att, Pacbell (Internet Service Providers)

  • Other, University (might use Google or Microsoft/365)


Browser App - App/Software used to access the Internet

Default Browser on iOS = Safari = icloud, mac, me (emails)

App Browser for Google = “Google” or Chrome = gmail (email)

App Browser for Microsoft = Edge = Hotmail, Outlook, Live, MSN (emails)


Remember on an iOS device there is usually an APP for the website you are visiting.

The benefit of the app is the design of the site is customized to the screen size of your device for a better navigation, user experience.

So, if there is a website you frequent regularly, check the App store for a related App.


No related app and you want to save the website, i.e. sft-covia.org, as an icon on the device’s screen? Add the site to your Home Screen

  1. Go to the website you want to create an icon for on the home screen

  2. Tap the arrow pointing up out of the box

  3. Choose “Add to Home Screen”

  4. Name the Icon as you see fit

  5. Tap Add on the top right

Visit the App Store to download an Alternate browser that matches with the one you use on your computer.

Download the “Google” app (links to your Gmail or Google Account created with another email address so your bookmarks and passwords sync on all your devices) Search using your camera, speak what you are searching for, try using Google’s AI Gemini to search

  1. After opening the app store

  2. Tap the search symbol on the bottom right

  3. Type in Google

  4. Choose the for Google

  5. Tap Get (if you see a cloud you’ve downloaded it before but removed the app, open means you already have the app on your device)

  6. Once you see Open you have the app installed and you can tap on it to open Google (the Google icon will be placed on your devices screen)

  7. Tap the top right to sign in with you Gmail or Google account

I already have a G on my device’s screen but the Google on the app store says get. Why? Most likely the G is a shortcut to Google via the browser Google. You can tell if after you tap the G you see in an address bar on the top or bottom of the screen www.google.com.

Access your Password List on the Google App

  1. Click the Circular icon on the top right

  2. Tap Passwords

  3. For security you will need to unlock your phone with your Face ID, Fingerprint or the passcode


Don’t have a Google account? No Problem sign up with any email address to Sync Settings and Save Passwords

  1. Click Create Account

  2. Fill out the information as requested

  3. Choose a new gmail address they recommend, choose your own gmail email or “Use Your Existing Email”

  4. Follow the instructions to complete setup of your Google account.

Login with Google - Bypass the need to create a new account for a website look for the login with Google and use the Google account you used to login to the new website.
No new user name and another new password.

  1. Click Login

  2. Choose login with Google or click the G for Google

  3. You will need to confirm your account

  4. Then agree to connect using Google


Are you a Safari User?

Your passwords for websites are saved in the default location of your iOS device.

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Find Password in the list

To access the same list on your computer, click the Apple menu and under System Settings/Preferences look for Passwords.


Use the password saver in Google or Safari or Edge to make it easy to access websites requiring passwords and to keep your passwords organized.
