Class Overview

Setting Up Streaming Services

  • Three key steps for setting up streaming on TV:
    • Create an account with the streaming service
    • Ensure you have the correct password
    • Use phone app to scan QR code or connect via network for easier TV login

San Francisco Public Library App (SFPL)

E-Books with Boundless

  • Boundless is one of several e-reader apps used by SFPL
  • Setup process:
    • Download app from App Store
    • Link to library card
    • Search for and check out available e-books
  • Benefits include adjustable text size for easier reading
  • Downloaded e-books remain accessible without internet connection
  • Borrowing period typically 14-21 days

Streaming Movies with Canopy

  • Free streaming service available through SFPL
  • Users receive 30 "tickets" per month to watch content
  • Wide selection of movies, documentaries, and educational content
  • Multiple-episode content may use multiple tickets
  • Content viewable for 5 days after using tickets

Audiobooks

  • Available through various apps including Libby
  • Can be played in browser or downloaded to device
  • Downloaded audiobooks can be accessed offline (useful for travel)

Additional Digital Resources

Tips for Digital Content Management

  • Turn on/off app notifications based on your needs
  • Download content before traveling to ensure offline access
  • Use biometric security (Face ID/Touch ID) for easier logins
  • Save passwords for convenience with library apps

Email Security Use a reliable email service. *If you are on @comcast.net setup a secondary email address. And you can forward emails from @comcast.net to your new email while you slowly transition over to a more secure email provider. Getting too much Spam (Junk Mail) Unsubscribing doesn't usually work Use the SPAM/Junk filters Create your filters/rules ~If the above options don't help, setup a secondary email address and share the new address with friends and family while leaving the junk behind in the old email. How to create a new email address? Go to gmail.com (Google), outlook.com (Microsoft) Choose Create Account, follow the prompts How do you access your emails? My emails have been hacked! What do I do? Notify all your contacts, friends and family to ignore the recent email and NOT send you money or respond to the email. This includes someone to send the message on your behalf.  Or create/use a secondary email to send a notification email to your friends/family group or distribution list NOT to send you money or respond to the email. (Be sure to put all the contacts in the BCC and send to groups of no mare than 50 contacts at a time) 1. Contact a Computer Tech to help cleanup and verify your email settings are properly configured, change your password and setup 2 factor authentication 2.
