Class Overview

  • This class focused on files and organization, storing digital content, file location, and managing storage space
  • Key topics included music synchronization across devices, file management, document collaboration, and cloud storage options

Music Synchronization and Services

File Management Basics

  • Files are just files regardless of type (music, photos, documents) - you manage them the same way
  • Creating new folders: File → New Folder → name the folder
  • Moving files: Open two windows, then drag and drop files between them
  • Deleting files:
    • Drag to trash
    • Select and press delete key
    • File → Move to Trash
  • Renaming folders/files:
    • Control+click (Mac) or right-click (PC) → select "Rename"
    • Can also click, wait, then click again to edit name
  • Window management:
    • Resize by dragging corners
    • Minimize using yellow button (Mac) or minimize button (PC)
    • Double-click the top of a window to reset its position
  • Viewing file paths: View → Show Path Bar
    • Helps locate files in the folder hierarchy
    • Useful for finding temporary files from email attachments

Document Collaboration

  • Microsoft Word: Use "Track Changes" under Review tab to see edits by different people
    • Shows who deleted or modified content
    • Can turn off via Review → Track Changes
  • Pages: Use "Collaborate" option when sharing
    • "Send a Copy" creates separate versions
    • "Collaborate" allows multiple people to work on same document simultaneously
  • Google Drive:
    • Offers live collaboration
    • File → Version History shows all changes with dates
    • Sharing options include:
      • Viewer (read only)
      • Commentator (can add comments but not edit)
      • Editor (full editing rights)

Cloud Storage Options

  • Device combinations and recommended cloud services:
  • Cloud storage provides central location accessible from all devices
  • Files can be stored locally on devices for offline access
