11.20.25 Mobile Device Management and Navigation Workshop

Storage Management

  • Access storage information on iPhone through Settings > General > iPhone Storage or on Android through Settings > Storage
  • Use the search function in Settings to quickly find storage options by typing "Storage"
  • The Files app allows browsing through all content stored on the device
  • Remove downloaded files when no longer needed to free up space on the device

App Navigation Patterns

  • Most Apple interfaces share consistent navigation with "Library" as a key element at the bottom of the screen
  • Library is where you find saved content, playlists, downloaded items, and manage storage across apps:
    • Music app: Library shows playlists, songs, and downloaded content
    • Podcasts app: Library contains downloaded episodes that can be deleted to save space
    • Books app: Library shows collections and downloaded content

Photos Management

  • Photos app has changed from bottom navigation to a vertical scrolling interface
  • Free up space by finding and merging duplicate photos in the Utilities section
  • Customize the Photos app interface:
    • Scroll to the bottom and select "Customize and Reorder"
    • Choose which categories to display and their order
  • Useful features in Photos:
    • Favorites: Quick access to important photos/documents
    • Hidden: Secure storage for sensitive documents requiring authentication
    • Map view: Shows photos organized by location using geotags
    • People: Automatically identifies and groups faces
    • Auto-categorization: Finds receipts, handwriting, documents, and more
    • Search: Find photos by typing keywords, locations, or activities

File Management and Searching

  • When searching for documents, navigate to the specific location first (iCloud Drive or On My iPhone)
  • Search within that location to find text inside documents
  • More people are using mobile devices instead of computers for everyday tasks

Sharing and Printing

• To access sharing options for any file, press and hold on the file
  • Select "Share" (arrow pointing up icon) to see options for sending the file
  • Printing options are also found under the Share menu
  • For printing:
    • Connect to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer
    • Choose a printer with a screen for easier setup and troubleshooting
  • Create PDFs from any printable content:
    • In the print screen, tap the arrow pointing up icon
    • Useful for sharing articles without requiring subscription access
    • Good for saving tickets or receipts for offline access
    • Can edit the PDF before sharing (remove pages with ads)
