Internet is your CONNECTION to other services from different companies. How you get to a www, website.

WWW - related to company websites

Computers are used most to access the www, websites via a Browser. (iOS, mobile devices should be using Apps)

Browser, software, used to access the www.


    Safari (default on Mac), Edge (default on Windows), Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Brave, Opera

Using the Browser effectively

Use tabs to multitask - looking at different websites within the same session, keep open websites easily accessible

    Create a new tab by clicking the + on the top bar

Search Engine - Help you find what you're looking for on the Internet, Direction to find the best www, website.

Google, Bing, Duck Duck Go, Yahoo, Aol, Baidu (China)

  • Used to answer a question
  • Find more information and details about something
  • Find an item
  • Use it like the Yellow Pages, finding businesses
    • Be careful using it to find people, most of the private information is private and don't fall for the trick to pay more to get more info.
  • Find businesses, website as portals to information, i.e. banks, hospitals
  • Find new stores
  • Learning

Passwords

Use the Password Keeper in your browser, so when you login to a website and it asks to save your password, say YES.

Go to the 3 dots/lines on the right to access the Password Manager for your browser. (using Safari? Go to system settings and passwords or the new Sequoia password app)


iOS Device, Smart Phones, Tablet

Look for an app for the service/website you are trying to use.

Open the app store and search (bottom right) for the company.


Biometrics - uses fingerprints or face for security to access your device and personal information

Passwords are being replaced by Biometric authentication (PassKey)

PassKey bypasses 2-step authentication (type in your password and a code is sent to your mobile phone, email or you can use an authenticator app)

My emails have been hacked! What do I do? Notify all your contacts, friends and family to ignore the recent email and NOT send you money or respond to the email. This includes someone to send the message on your behalf.  Or create/use a secondary email to send a notification email to your friends/family group or distribution list NOT to send you money or respond to the email. (Be sure to put all the contacts in the BCC and send to groups of no mare than 50 contacts at a time) 1.
