Computer Class Notes for 2/13/2025 - Troubleshooting Safari, predictive text, and email AI. Optimize browser, email, and cloud services for Apple, Microsoft, or Google ecosystems.
Get Rid of Predictive Typing in Emails (only accessed on webmail, i.e. gmail.com, hotmail.com, ...)
- Go to settings
- Choose Mail
- Outlook/Hotmail go to "Smart Suggestions" turn off the settings
- Gmail go to General then, "Smart Compose" turn it off
Keep the Predictive Typing that appear by pressing TAB
Avoid the AI on your emails by using Macintosh Mail to access your emails (get to Macintosh Mail in the Applications Folder)
My Safari doesn't work with my Bank or other websites. It tells me it's not compatible or out of date.
Safari stops updating itself when your operating system is out of date. So Safari won't have the newest and necessary security credentials and settings.
Work Around is to use an alternate browser like Firefox (Mozilla), Chrome (Google), Brave, Edge (Microsoft)
How do I learn to use...? Ask copilot.microsoft.com (Co-Pilot), Google.com (Gemini)
Try to use all the products connected to the provider of your email.
- Gmail = Google Products - Chrome, Google App, Google Maps, Gemini, Cloud Storage (One)
- Hotmail/Outlook = Microsoft Products - Edge, Co-Pilot, Cloud Storage (OneDrive)
- Me/iCloud = Apple products - Safari, Siri, Cloud Storage (iCloud)
If you have another email address, Choose one of the above pathways and stick with all their products for continuity.
- Most common is paying for Apple iCloud because of Cloud Storage, i.e. $.99, $2.99 but look at their other products, i.e. Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple News - For a bundled service, https://www.apple.com/apple-one/
- If you pay Microsoft you are probably paying for Office Applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint - Cloud Storage (OneDrive) is also included with subscription to Office Suite, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365
- Google less likely to pay for but they have bundled services too, https://one.google.com/
Do I need to keep DropBox or Box?
When the concept of Cloud Storage was new, these services were very handy when transferring files between users of Windows and Macintosh systems.
But now, the 3 main cloud services mentioned above are easily sharable with varying operating systems and mobile devices.
Find the service you prefer or use and transfer all your files to their cloud storage for safe keeping and accessibility on multiple devices. Cancel the subscriptions that duplicate the same services.
Macintosh Users do not need Antivirus like Norton, McAfee or malwarebytes or similar apps
Windows Users do not need Norton, McAfee but Malwarebytes is recommended.
