iGoogle Notes for Macintosh Class 2-3-2009

Setting up a custom iGoogle homepage with personalized windows displaying topics of your choice. (ex. news, directions, tv listings, daily soduku, joke of the day, stock updates, gmail – choose 1 or all)
1. go to igoogle.com
2. click sign in (top left)
3. type in your entire gmail email ex. sftowershelp@gmail.com
4. type in your password and choose remember me on this computer
5. click sign in
6. a window will appear (the first time you set it up) asking which topics you are interested in including on your custom homepage
7. check a few of the boxes beside the topics
8. if you like you can choose a custom theme that can be changed later if you do not like it
9. type in your zip code
10. click “see your page” to generate your custom homepage

Navigating on the iGoogle homepage
*Tabs on the left
On the left of the window are tabs that list each of the panels/gadget you have included as part of your homepage. Click it to open a larger view
**Each panel/gadget is separated by its own border and title bar above it which includes the gadgets name, and two icons, the menu arrow and maximize button
***Enlarge a panel/gadget
Click on the maximize button on the top right of the panels title bar
****Minimize(reduce the size) a panel/gadget, by click on the black arrow pointing down on the title bar of the gadget and choose minimize

Customizing the iGoogle homepage
*Delete a panel/gadget.
Click on the arrow pointing down on the title bar of the gadget. Select delete this gadget, confirm by clicking OK
**Moving a panel on the page to organize them in order of importance, to you.
Move your mouse to the title bar of the panel and notice how your arrow turns into four arrows. Click hold and then drag the panel to the location on the page. Release when you want to drop it in its new outlined box.
***Add other gadgets.
On the right side of the screen near the top, click “add stuff”. The page will change, displaying a list of new gadgets that can be added to your homepage. Click “add it now” to add it. (Search for specific types of gadgets, ie directions, ny times in the text box on the top right, or browse different categories on the left of the screen) ****Remember add what ever you want…because if you don’t like it, you can delete it from your homepage****

Now that you have a custom iGoogle homepage with 1,2,3…10..or more gadgets, SET this new page as your homepage.
In Safari or Firefox.
1. go to igoogle.com
2. click on the application name menu (top left of the screen Safari or Firefox)
3. choose preferences
4. click the general tab if needed
5. in the white box for the homepage web address, type in http://www.igoogle.com OR click “set as current page”
6. click ok or close the window
7. done… the next time you open your web browser, you will see your iGoogle page displayed
