Help "KickStart" our Member's Social Enterprise!

As part of P.I.E.'s Fundraising Module, members decided to create a social enterprise designing and selling t-shirts. The money raised will be used to purchase new technology for Pollicita's Mobile Media Club. To get the school and community involved in our new fundraiser, the members decided to hold a school-wide design contest. The theme of the first design contest is "Daly City Pride".

School faculty and our members will choose 10 finalists from which the entire student body of Pollicita will then vote for one design they want to see on a t-shirt. To fund the production and printing of the first-run of shirts, our members have launched a Kickstarter campaign. The goal, to raise $750 by Saturday, March 16th, 2013.

Update! School Mobile App in Development

The mobile app is in development! P.I.E. is actively working with developers to complete the mobile app that the school administration and students of the Mobile Media Club will use to communicate happenings at Pollicita with parents. Principal Valenti, is excited to have a twitter feed to tweet announcements to parents and the students can’t wait to share with their parents and the community the great things happening at school. P.I.E. is working diligently to get the mobile app for Android and iOS completed before the end of the school year.

Streamlining our Modules for Effectiveness

Starting this year, the modules have been redesigned with the students in mind. We want students to take an active role in their groups. At the beginning of each new module, students choose leaders to help manage their groups and make sure that their groups are on track to completing their assignments on time. The added responsibility helps students feel accountable for their group’s progress. To get the students excited about each project, we realize that we need to make the modules shorter and include more instruction. By reducing the length of modules from 4 weeks to 2 weeks, we ensure that students will be given enough variety to make even the less engaging aspects more enjoyable and rewarding. We also included more instruction in each module to reduce the necessity of teacher involvement. By increasing the level of detail and instruction within each module, students have an increased sense of autonomy and are clearly seeing the fruits of their labor.
