Searching for Applications in the Computer
Windows 7 – Click on the start menu and in the bottom search bar type in what you are looking for
Windows 8 – Click the start menu and in the panels view, click on the magnifying glass in the top right and type in what you are looking for
XP – Click on the start menu and search in All Programs
 
--Preinstalled Software--
Pin the application to the taskbar to keep it readily available. Right-click on the icon on the taskbar and choose "Pin This Program to Taskbar"

Notepad
Solitaire
Snipping Tool
Health & Fitness (Windows 8)
Copy(Duplicate) and Paste(Place)
1. Select what to Copy, Highlighting(click hold and drag over text)
2. Choose "Copy" function -> Edit menu choose Copy
OR hold CTRL + Press C
OR right click on the selected item and choose copy
3. Click where to put the content
4. Choose the "Paste" function -> Edit menu choose Paste
OR hold CTRL + Press V
OR right click where you want it and choose paste
 
Saving files in the computer
Save to 1 of 2 places. Either the Desktop (1) or Documents (2)
The desktop is the easiest place to find files because they immediately appear when the computer is on.
What happens if the desktop becomes cluttered?
Move the files to the Documents folder.
Create a shortcut to the documents folder on the desktop
1.   Open any folder and on the left panel locate documents
2.   Drag the documents folder to the desktop
3.   A link/shortcut is created
Drag files from the desktop to the documents shortcut to file them away

Defragment the files that are bogging down the computer using Smart Defrag 1. Go to google.com 2. Type in the search bar, smart defrag and then press enter 3. Click on the first (unpaid) result which should be iobit.com 4. Click the link “download now” 5. The page will change click in the middle “download majorgeeks” 6. Wait for the page to load and you will be prompted to save or run the file you are downloading 7. Click “save” if possible choose the desktop as the location where you want to save the file 8. Wait for the file to complete downloading 9. Next, is installing the program into the computer 10. Locate the file you downloaded, on the desktop of in my documents/downloads 11. Backup Quicken to a Flash Drive

Backup Quicken to a Flash Drive 1. Insert the flash drive into the computer 2. Wait for the computer to detect the drive (a window displaying the contents of the flash drive may open) – Drive is identified by the letter E: or F: etc. 3. Open Quicken 4. Go to the “file” menu and choose “backup” 5. A window displaying the path of where the backup will be saved will appear The path should be to the E: or identifying letter of the flash drive 6. If not…you need to direct quicken to where to save the backup 7. Click “browse” 8. Find and click on “my computer” 9. From the list that appears click on the E: or identifying letter of the flash drive 10. Click OK and the window will close displaying the new path for where the backup will be saved 11.
