I created a document, WHERE IS IT?
*Open the program you used to create the document. i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
1. Click the File Menu
2. Choose Recent Documents
Tip: Hover your mouse over the file you want to see the path (i.e. c:/users/jason/documents/myfile.docx) where the document is saved to.
Read the path from right to left with the name preceding the / as the location of the file. The file example above is saved in documents.
**Still can't find your document.
Look on the desktop
Or click any folder and choose document or downloads
***Last but not least, use the SEARCH function of windows
1. Click the start menu
2. Type the name of the file you want (less is sometimes better)
remember to hover your mouse over the result you want to see the file path to where the file is saved
Change the view of the icons to show a detailed list.
1. Click the View menu
2. Choose Detailed
Click on the column headings, Name, Date, Type to organize all the files based on your criteria
Saving a Document
1. Go to the File menu
2. Choose Save
If you are saving the document for the first time, you will be prompted to name the document and choose
-where to save it (look at the top for the location and click on the left to change the location)

-name it (remember do not use / or \)
- and you can choose the format to save the file as (if you plan to share the document via email save the file in a universal format, text document = .rtf)
3. Click Save
Copy/Cut and Paste
to move text or information from one location to another
1. Select what to Copy (duplicate) or Cut (move)
2. Click the Edit Menu choose Copy or Cut
3. Click where you want to put the information
4. Click the Edit Menu choose Paste to Place the content
Tip: Select with more precision
1. Hold Shift down
2. While still holding shift down, Tap the arrow keys on the keyboard to select individual letters or lines of text
I try to open a file and I get an error, cannot find the application associated with the file type. Or the wrong program opens when you double click a file.
Change the program associated with the specific file type. i.e. docx, rtf, txt, jpeg, pdf, xls, csv, etc.
1. Right Click on the icon
2. Choose Open with
3. Choose the correct program to associate the extension to
Tip: Spelling Correction – Red Underlined word
1. Right-Click on the word
2. Choose the correct spelling from the list that appears
