Customizing your Macintosh Computer

Change the desktop picture to your choice
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Desktop and Screensaver"
  4. Click the "desktop" tab
  5. Choose a picture you want

Choose a new folder with your collection of photos
  1. Click the +
  2. Find the Folder
  3. Click Choose

Check change picture every 5 minutes to see a rotating collection of photos as the desktop image

Change your computer into a dynamic photo picture frame
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Desktop and Screensaver"
  4. Click the "screensaver" tab
  5. Click "Source" to choose a preset collection of images or to select your own folder of images
  6. Choose the effect you want on the left
  7. Choose when you want the screensaver to be activated beside "start after"

Keep your new screensaver on all the time, be sure to change when your screen turns off in the energy saver settings.
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Energy Saver"
  4. Drag the slider to never or the duration you want the computer to wait before turning off the display

Hot Corners - Setup the 4 different corners of your screen to jump to the desktop, open the launchpad, turn on the screensaver, etc
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Desktop and Screensaver"
  4. Click the "screensaver" tab
  5. Click Hot Corners
  6. Change each of the corners to the action you want
  7. Click OK

To activate a Hot Corner
Move your mouse arrow to the corner to activate the hot corner
Click on the edge of the screen to return to what you were doing

Setup Function Keys (found on the top of your keyboard) F7, F8, etc.
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Mission Control"
  4. Look at or change the Keyboard Shortcuts listed at the bottom

Discover new functions with your mouse
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Mouse" or "Trackpad" depending on which you have
  4. Hover your mouse over the different functions to see an example of function before deciding to activate it or not

*note is you can buy a trackpad for your computer if you don't want to use the mouse because of mobility or an injury

Getting duplicate letters while typing?
Make the delay before letters repeat longer.
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Keyboard"
  4. Adjust the "delay before repeat"

How can I change the arrow size of my mouse
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Click "Accessibility"
  4. Choose Display
  5. Drag the slider to increase the size

Need to find a setting and how to change it?
  1. Click the apple menu
  2. Choose System Preferences
  3. Type in the search on the top right of the window what you are trying to do
  4. Choose the description that best matches what you are trying to do
