Macintosh Computer Notes 1-16-18

Eliminate Ads on the Internet using Extensions on Safari, or other web browser
Open Safari
Click the Safari Menu on the top left
Choose Safari Extensions
Pick an add block to install like ABP
Click Install Now and follow the prompts

What are Extensions?
They are enhancements from third party developers that add additional functionality to your web browsing on the Internet experience.

Other Extension
Last Pass - Password storage (can be synced with multiple devices)
Evernote - Document, Note storage on the cloud (can also be synced with multiple devices)
Ebates - Get cash back as a check from almost every online store
Grammarly - A proofreader that runs in your web browser so your gmail, yahoo emails can be checked before sending. They also provide an online word processor with the proofreading function.

Save on Paper when Printing
Specify which page to print, just page 1 to 1 which is usually the most important information.
OR
Change the scale from 100% to 90% to make it all fit on one page.
OR
Click the print double(2)-sided

It's the new year remember to have a Back Up system if you have photos, documents that are important in your computer.

The easiest way to back up on a Macintosh is using TimeMachine because there aren't any monthly fees.
Buy a external hard drive and plug it in via the USB.

How much storage do I need?
Check now much your are storing…apple menu, about this mac, storage and multiply how much you are using by 3.

To open Time Machine
1.Click the apple menu
2.Go to System Preferences
3.Go to Time Machine

Update your computer, NOT UPGRADE
~an update can take up to 30 minutes to complete and usually the computer needs to restart so be sure you don't need it before starting the update.
1.Go to the apple menu
2.Choose the app store
3.Click on the top update
4.If an update is revealed click Update All
5.Follow the prompts that show up on the screen

What is the difference between and update and upgrade?
Update improves the security, functionality of your current operating system
Upgrade replaces your current operating system with a new "improved" system

Beware!!! High Sierra upgrades can occasionally cause your computer to not work.

Update your other software
Firefox/Chrome - go to the application menu on the top right, choose about and if an update is needed, it will appear.
Microsoft Office -  go to help, then go to check for updates

Wait for the computer to detect the drive (a window displaying the contents of the flash drive may open) – Drive is identified by the letter E: or F: etc. 3. Open Quicken 4.
