Macintosh Class Notes 10-16-18

I'm getting a ton of SPAM emails what do I do?

If it's not too much trouble create a new email address. remember you don't need to stop use your existing email address, but you can use the new address for ONLY friends and family and the Old address for registration with websites for shopping, etc.

Choose an email provider that has a better spam filter like Gmail.

For reputable companies like Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon, etc. look for unsubscribe on the bottom of the page. When you click unsubscribe be sure you unsubscribe to ALL the options given.

BUT BEWARE!!! Do not unsubscribe to unscrupulous, mortgage, medication, medicare, political contribution emails. If you do, you are indicating to them that you open your emails and they will send you MORE.

Create rules, filters to create your own SPAM filtering system. Look for preferences, or more settings and click rules or filters. Setup the rule/filter to search the subject, or message body for keywords that will then indicate that you want the message to be deleted.

Use a mail client like Macintosh Mail to access your emails and turn on SPAM filtering. Mail menu, preference, junk, turn on Junk Mail Filtering and setup the criteria of how mail is to be marked as SPAM.

BEWARE of Phishing Emails - if You have to think twice about it…then DELETE IT!
