Happy New Year!


Turn off Background Applications to improve the speed of the computer

1. Click the flag, bottom left

2. Click the gear/cog for settings

3. Type in the search bar "background"

4. Click "Choose which apps can run in the background"

5. Turn all off with master switch on top or turn each individual app off


Turn off Notifications from Microsoft and other Apps

1. Click the flag, bottom left

2. Click the gear/cog for settings

3. Type in the search bar "notifications"

4. Click "Turn app notifications on or off"

5. Turn off - "Get notifications from apps and other senders"


Viewing Spelling Auto-correct Suggestions

On the red underlined word

Right-Click

Choose the correct suggestion from the list


Remove unwanted applications (especially those added automatically by Microsoft)

1. Click the flag, bottom left

2. Click the gear/cog for settings

3. Click Apps

4. Look through the list of apps, click to choose to uninstall it

Not sure what the application (app) is, open it by typing in the name on the search bar on the bottom left


Try Sticky Notes to put virtual post its on your computer screen.


Do you have sound coming from your computer you didn't start, open your web browser and look for the tab, on the top, with the speaker on it to find which page is making noise.

Double click the top bar to maximize it to the full screen

Or drag it down to resize the screen

Click on the first (unpaid) result which should be iobit.com 4. Click the link “download now” 5. The page will change click in the middle “download majorgeeks” 6. Wait for the page to load and you will be prompted to save or run the file you are downloading 7. Click “save” if possible choose the desktop as the location where you want to save the file 8. Wait for the file to complete downloading 9. Next, is installing the program into the computer 10. Locate the file you downloaded, on the desktop of in my documents/downloads 11. Backup Quicken to a Flash Drive

Backup Quicken to a Flash Drive 1. Insert the flash drive into the computer 2. Wait for the computer to detect the drive (a window displaying the contents of the flash drive may open) – Drive is identified by the letter E: or F: etc. 3. Open Quicken 4. Go to the “file” menu and choose “backup” 5. A window displaying the path of where the backup will be saved will appear The path should be to the E: or identifying letter of the flash drive 6. If not…you need to direct quicken to where to save the backup 7. Click “browse” 8. Find and click on “my computer” 9. From the list that appears click on the E: or identifying letter of the flash drive 10. Click OK and the window will close displaying the new path for where the backup will be saved 11.
