Understanding Accounts and Services Related to Them

What type of email do you use?

  • Gmail

  • Yahoo

  • AOL

  • Hotmail, Outlook, Live

  • Comcast, Sonic, Sbcglobal, Att, Pacbell (Internet Service Providers)

  • Other, University (might use Google or Microsoft/365)


Choosing a Default Web Browser based on Your Email Provider

Login with the related emails to access additional features and benefits.

Syncing settings

Saving & Syncing passwords

  • Microsoft Edge (WIndows Default Browser) =  Microsoft Email users (Hotmail, Outlook, Live, MSN)

  • Google Chrome = Gmail Users

**Note. You can use your existing email to create a Google or Microsoft Account


How can I use another browser like Chrome?

  1. Visit chrome.google.com or in Google type “Chrome Browser” in the search

  2. Click Download Chrome

  3. Find the downloaded installation file in the Downloads folder

  4. Double click the file to start the installation of Chrome

  5. Follow the prompts

  6. When the installation is complete you will see the Chrome icon on the desktop.


Login on Your Web Browser

Edge - Click the circular icon on the top left

Then click Sign In

Login with your Microsoft email account

Chrome - Click the Circular icon on the top right

Click Turn on Sync

Login with your Google account information



Don’t have a Microsoft account? No Problem sign up with any email address to Sync Settings and Save Passwords

  1. Click “Create with any email, Gmail or phone!

  2. Enter your email address to create a new account or if you’d prefer a new email click “Get a New Email”

  3. Click Next, and then follow the additional steps to complete setup. 


Don’t have a Google account? No Problem sign up with any email address to Sync Settings and Save Passwords

  1. Click Create Account

  2. Fill out the information as requested

  3. Choose a new gmail address they recommend, choose your own gmail email or “Use Your Existing Email”

  4. Follow the instructions to complete setup of your Google account.

Favorites, Bookmark, Save a Website on Google Chrome

  1. Go to the website you want to save/bookmark for easy access again

  2. Click the star on the address bar at the top

  3. Rename the Website so it is short, for the folder choose Bookmarks Bar


Make your Bookmark Bar visible and easily accessible

  1. Click the 3 dots on the top right

  2. Choose Bookmarks

  3. Choose “Show Bookmarks Bar”

  4. The bookmarks bar appears near the top of the window

  5. Add more website bookmarks for quick access

Login with Google - Bypass the need to create a new account for a website look for the login with Google and use the Google account you used to login to the new website.
No new user name and another new password.

  1. Click Login

  2. Choose login with Google or click the G for Google

  3. You will need to confirm your account

  4. Then agree to connect using Google


Eliminate Ads using an Extension, an add-on to enhance your web browser features.

  1. Click the three dots on the top right

  2. Choose Extensions

  3. Choose “Visit Chrome Web Store”

  4. In the search bar type in “ad”

  5. Choose one of the matching options that appear

  6. Click “Add to Chrome”

  7. Click Add Extension

  8. The new extension will appear when you click the puzzle piece on the top right

  9. Click the Pin to have the extension visible at all times.


Try other extensions to enhance your web browsing experience.

Search for:

“Rakuten” - to get rebates when shopping online (remember to sign in with Google)

“Translator” - to translate a webpage into almost any language and to translate webpages in a foreign language into English


Explore different extensions and share with the class what you’ve found.


Did you try an extension and then decide to remove it? No Problem.

  1. Click the Puzzle piece

  2. Click the 3 dots beside the extension you do not want

  3. Choose Remove

  4. Confirm the Removal of the Extension
