PC Notes for 9/5/17 Do I need to turn off my computer? You should not leave your computer ON (picture on the screen) all the time. Why? The mechanical parts, the hard drive and fan can wear out faster. But my computer is slow to start after I shut it down! Put your computer to sleep instead of shutting it down. Setting up sleep: 1. Open the Control Panel (Click on the Start Flag, bottom left, and click the control panel icon in the list OR type in "con" to search for the control panel) 2. Search for the Settings for Sleep (Type Sleep in the top right box to filter the settings that appear) 3. Click on the result for changing when and how the computer goes to sleep to access settings for time after the computer is inactive. Recommendation 30 minutes. If you think you have a virus, download a FREE antivirus software 1.Go to Google, Type in "Sophos antivirus Mac" 2.Remember the first 2 results are ADS 3.Also look at the website address/URL in green to confirm the source 4.Click Get Started 5.Register with Sophos and create a password (write it down) 6.Look in your email inbox for a verification email and the link to download the software 7.Then double click on the software to install it 8.The Sophos Icon appears on the top right bar beside the clock 9.Click the icon to open the software and run a manual scan If you feel your computer's performance has degraded since Sophos was installed, remove it. 1.Click Spotlight (magnifying glass top right corner) type in sophos 2.Click Remove Sophos If you use Firefox Update to the newest version! 1.Visit www.firefox.com 2.Click Download 3.Open the downloaded file (dmg) 4.The window opens with the firefox icon
